Welcome to Our Town
Tourist
and travel writers have been exploring Ketchikan, Alaska since the
day the city first incorporated back in the 1900. In these days
visitors arrived in steamships, stepped across the plank dock and
wandered down the wooden streets, gazed at totem poles, looked
for the notorious red-light district of Creek Street, observed the
salmon canneries, and watched the eagles soaring in flight. Tourists
today arrive on airplane, cruise ships or by the Alaska Marine Highway
System. Seeing some, if not all, of what the first visitors were
looking for in Ketchikan, Alaska; the “Salmon Capital of the World”.
